The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.

Our Services

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is a process through which clients work one-on-one with a mental health clinician in a safe, caring, and confidential environment. Also known as talk therapy, it can help improve or control mental health symptoms. Therapy allows individuals to explore their feelings, beliefs, and behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and work toward change.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy is specifically designed to treat difficult emotions, beliefs, and memories associated with traumatic beliefs with goals of reducing PTSD symptoms and allowing trauma survivors to move forward. If you have undergone trauma and have done talk therapy without any trauma specific treatment, you may have found it difficult to make lasting progress. I provide both Cognitive Processing Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy. These are two treatments backed by science that have helped many people access healing, process trauma, and move forward.

Adolescent Therapy

Adolescent therapy helps teens learn healthy coping skills and set realistic goals. Therapy provides a safe space for teens to explore distressing thoughts and emotions, work through childhood trauma, and build stronger connections with family members. Therapy for adolescents includes work on both the teen’s and the parents’ or caregivers’ parts. We will work together to identify difficulties, formulate goals, and learn new skills. Checking in with parents is an integral part of adolescent therapy, while at the same time providing teens with the opportunity to engage in a private and supportive therapy space.

What Clients Are Saying?

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, we can meet via phone or video for 20 minutes to see if we are a good fit as therapist and client before scheduling a paid session.

The initial intake session is a mental health assessment. We will explore your reasons for coming to therapy, any mental health symptoms, any neurodivergent traits, goals for the process, and specific likes or dislikes from previous treatment experiences.

To get the most out of counseling and to address mental health issues, it is recommended that clients meet weekly for the first six to eight sessions. If this isn’t possible, we can meet every other week. Over time, we will decrease the frequency of therapy at a rate agreed upon between client and therapist. You can stop or start therapy services at any time.

The duration of therapy will depend largely on your needs, treatment goals, and progress. Many concerns are readily resolved with a brief course of therapy (6-8 weeks), and other chronic or more complex concerns require a long-term commitment in order to improve. The ultimate goal for clients is to build the necessary skills and supports to be able to graduate from therapy and end sessions.

Without insurance, intake sessions are $160 (60-90 minutes). After that, sessions are $125 (55 minutes).

Yes, I accept Aetna insurance. Prior to our first session, you can provide me with your insurance card so I can check how much services will cost. It is also important to call your insurance yourself to check your benefits and costs of services.

I will be in-network with BCBS starting 5/27/24. In the meantime, sliding scale rates of $70 per session are available for BCBS clients.

If you do not have insurance, I can also provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company to use your out-of-network benefits. Please call your insurance beforehand to check if you have those benefits before deciding on that route. Not all insurance plans offer out-of-network benefits.

I do not accept Medicaid or Medicare insurance, but Medicaid/care clients can attend therapy with me after signing a waiver. Medicaid/care clients are eligible for sliding scale fees.

Yes. I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots starting at $70 per session.

I see clients on Wednesdays between 12 – 6:30 PM and on Fridays between 12 – 6:30 PM. My office is located in Durham, NC close to the intersection of MLK and University Drive. You can attend therapy virtually or in person.

No, I do not prescribe medications. I am happy to help you find a referral for a medication prescriber such as a psychiatrist (MD) or psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC).

I offer 60 minute therapy sessions either once or twice weekly. I am not able to provide crisis counseling services outside of our weekly sessions or support outside of business hours. If you are navigating more challenging mental health issues and require more support, I may not be able to provide treatment that fully supports you in moving towards recovery.

During your consultation or intake, we will evaluate what level of mental health care is best for you. If needed, you may be referred to a higher level of care that provides more frequent therapy, additional services such as housing or domestic violence support, and/or crisis services available outside of regular business hours.
